Nik Hirani is a consultant respiratory physician the Royal Infirmary Edinburgh and PI in the Centre for Inflammation Research, IRR, Edinburgh. He leads a regional lung fibrosis service and his research interests include early phase lung fibrosis clinical trials, exploratory biomarkers and macrophage biology in lung inflammation and repair. Nik has led dozens of experimental medicine and early phase trials in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) and other chronic respiratory disease, employing novel devices and tools. He is a Co-I in the LifeArc UK Rare Respiratory Disease Centre, has chaired impactful clinical guideline committees and consortia and held senior managements roles in the NHS. Nik has generated the ELFMEN study, one of the largest longitudinal cohorts and biobanks for lung fibrosis globally.
