Endoluminal Robotic Technologies for Interventional Pulmonology
In this project, performed in partnership with the School of Informatics (SoI) and the Edinburgh Centre for Robotics, we aim to develop a cyber-physical system (CPS) that (i) offers a platform for early lung cancer theranostics by performing a diagnostic and therapeutic procedure in the same setting, and (ii) enables bedside autonomous lung sampling/diagnosis for critically ill mechanically ventilated patients, where there is a time-critical need for early differential diagnosis and targeted therapy.
We aim to leverage the recent advances made across multiple disciplines including medical imaging and sensing, robotic surgery, and ablation technology to enable a unified endoluminal detection/therapeutic platform for respiratory medicine with reduced complications, higher diagnostic yield, reduced procedural time and serial exploration capability.
